I LAUNCHED and commercialised a subscription newsletter by Charlie Aitken, the star trader of Australia’s largest stockbroking group Southern Cross Equities, and make an existing financial forum website profitable.
The Financial Arena had virtually no capital and only two staff so I took an equity stake to participate in its upside.
The company relied on my contacts to partner with media companies to extend its reach.
As a result, content from The Financial Arena is now available in The Australian, ABC Lateline Business, The Eureka Report, BRW, The ASX and others.
This exposure and the company's low costs meant I was able to grow revenues 500 per cent and profit 300 per cent in six months and take the company into profitability.
On its current trajectory it will deliver a net profit of $170,000 in FY10, $675,000 in FY11 and $1 million in FY12.
In June, with the company stable and in profit, the main shareholder reduced his financial support and my role was made redundant.
